Wedding Wednesday – Flowers…go real or go home!

I truly don’t get the fake (aka silk, artificial) flowers for weddings.  The best advice I got when I was beginning to plan our wedding was spend the money on food & flowers.  People remember those 2 things.

I was astounded to find out how inexpensive a fresh flower bouquet is for a bride.  You really don’t have to spend much.  Why wouldn’t you want the beautiful fragrance of flowers?

Here’s my best advice to all of my fellow diy brides…hire a florist for the bouquets, boutennieres and corsages.  Then work with a local greenhouse for all of your other flowers.  My local greenhouse offered me a 20% discount because I was buying in bulk.  Plus they will pot all of the plants for me.

Potted plants allow you to go home and plant them in your garden when the wedding is over.  If you pick perennials they’ll come back year after year to remind you of that special day.

I’m picking a mix of annuals, spring bulbs and perennials.  I also picked up some adorable containers to plant them in.  The square pots were $1.29 at Christmas Tree Shops.  The small tin pots were $2.32 at a flower warehouse and the large tin buckets were a few dollars at Home Depot.

Bottom line… “Go Real or Go Home” when it comes to wedding flowers!!!
